To My Photographer Friends…from my heart.

There has been something weighing on my heart the last few months. Why are so many photographers so mean to other photographers???

Im not sure why there is a culture of  making fun of others, laughing about others pricing, processing or techniques, but in all honesty Im sick of it.

No one was born a master at Anything? Even Picasso was probably some kid with a box of crayons at one point. right?

Just because someone isn’t as far on their journey as someone else doesn’t give someone else the right to belittle, make fun of,  steal their work, put it up on some “fauxtographer” blog for the world to make fun of. ( not that this has happened to me) But Its cruel & unnecessary. How would you feel if people you admired made fun of your early work? Its just not right.
AND Just because a person does something one way doesn’t make it wrong?

Its OK to not love Light room

Its OK to Love Light room

Its OK to use Actions

Its OK to not use actions

Its OK to only use natural light

Its OK to only use studio lights

Its OK to have a home based studio

Its OK to have a  store front studio

Its OK to be YOU!

I really think we need to stop caring so much about what everyone else is doing. What works for you? Take your eyes off the rest of the world and look at your self? Art your clients happy, are you happy? and are you continuing to learn, grow, try new things, and let yourself fail?

My point really is, lets stop all this judgement, name calling ( Fauxtographer, MWAC) Everyone starts somewhere. It really doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing with their photography or business, if they use selective color & heavy vingnettes thats their perogitive. What matters is YOU, how you advance your self to be the best photographer & person you can be. Be Kind.

I encourage you for 2012 to focus on yourself, your personal growth and your business.

With much Love, Light & Gratitude to you and yours this holiday season!!!

Well said Lisa!!! I totally agree. It makes me angry and upset when I see this sort of thing going on. People need to worry about their OWN business instead of belittling someone elses efforts. We all make mistakes at times during our journey, it’s a part of the learning process. I love being a part of this industry – I have an amazing network of friends and support but I hate to see this ugly side of it all! xox Happy Holidays. Sam

Thank you so much for saying this, Lisa. Very well said. Wish that all established Professionals felt the same as you. Merry Christmas!

To see someone of your caliber say this makes me very happy. No one should make fun of or belittle anyone! If someone’s work isn’t your taste don’t follow them and If they ask you for advice be polite. Simple as that.

Merry Christmas!

Love this! I’m just starting my photographer journey. I didn’t even realized there were people that were doing this sort of thing. How horrible! How can people like me learn and grow if others are making fun. I’ve been so fortunate to have help on my journey from some awesome photographers. How discouraging that people think this is acceptable. There is so much to learn with photography, you can’t jump in and be fabulous! And you can’t not jump in either cause it’s the best way to learn! :)

Thank you so much for sharing this! I am fairly new to the photography business, and I have noticed this. I appreciate knowing there are professionals who are NOT this way, and I hope to do the profession right by only encouraging others in their journey.

Lisa, you are genuinely one of a kind. Thank you for always being an inspiration, and for keeping things real. Because you have been an inspiration to so many, your written words speak volumes, and even if it changes one persons negative behaviour, you have done your job :) Be the change … Much love to your family this holiday season, may your holidays be filled with joy and happiness and may you and your family be blessed with health, wealth, and prosperity in the new year.

Sincerely,

A fan from the start

I couldn’t agree more! Thank you so much for sharing and happy new year to you! xo

Perfect!!! I have been doing nature and landscape photography for years but I just recently decided to give photographing people a try. I know I have a lot to learn and have made many mistakes and I love when other photographers post tips and other helpful things to help people like me. It makes me feel like we are a big family helping each other to succeed instead of a bunch of enemies trying to compete. There is no need for insults or making someone feel bad about their work.

Thanks so much for this. I’ve felt dumb so many times from emailing other photog’s with questions only to get no response. I’ve almost went down the path I didn’t want to, in regards to style, just to fit in with what’s “in”. I just recently got the courage to be “me”. Thanks for the positive reinforcement! ;)

THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS I LOVE LOVE IT!!!!

VERY well said! I am an event planner who does photography on the side. As an event planner, there is a lot of the same trash talk – but the way I became successful was to just be myself and do what worked best for me. I took the negative comments as flattery knowing those people couldn’t be as successful as they thought if they spent all their time worrying about what I was doing. The last thing I had time to do was worry about what everyone else was doing and saying.
As a photographer, I have struggled a bit with this though because I work with tons of talented photographers every week that have no idea that I do photography on the side.
In 2012 though, ,I have made it my goal to just do what I love and if other photographer’s think I am crazy – that is okay. Photography makes me happy – and planning events makes me happy – so I will do both proudly. :)

Lisa, I absolutely love and agree with this. Thank you for putting into words how I have been feeling lately! I wish everyone could get along and encourage one another to be the best they can be. You’re wonderful!

thank you! the right words at the right time! I’m tired of it, too! Love this post!

Found you on pinterest and I am a new/huge fan! Thank you for this post! So True!

Exactly, there will always be competitors in any industry so rather than bash one another, they should support one another, learn from one another, and admire one another for being able to be in the industry that they are able to build businesses in. Those who are catty and mean to others in a field they hold so dear to their heart are just jealous of another person’s work!

Beautiful post….nough said. BTW love your photography.
