Welcoming a new addition to your family is a joyous occasion filled with unforgettable moments.
Among the many milestones, capturing those early days through newborn photography is so important! As they say the days are long but the years are short!
As you prepare to embark on this journey of preserving memories, you may wonder, “When is the best time to schedule my newborn photo session? I tend to book my sessions about 3 months in advance, but thats not to say last minute spots might be available too.
Within The First Few Weeks: A Window of Opportunity The first few weeks of your baby’s life are a whirlwind of tender moments and delicate transitions. This period, often referred to as the “golden window,” is when your newborn is at their sleepiest and most flexible.
Within the first ten days, babies tend to curl up naturally, reminiscent of their time in the womb, making it easier to capture those adorable poses that melt your heart.
I typically try and schedule my newborn sessions when baby is 8-16 days old. But thats not to say older newborns cant pose too! The above image is a baby at 1 month old!
During this time, your baby is more likely to remain in a deep sleep, allowing the me to gently position them into various poses without disturbance. These early days also typically showcase your baby’s flawless skin and delicate features before they start to change and develop.
Safety First: Ensuring a Comfortable Environment When scheduling your newborn session, safety should always be the top priority. Regardless of if you choose me, or another photographer, choose a photographer who prioritizes safety and is extremely experienced in handling newborns. They should be well-versed in safe posing techniques and maintaining a warm, soothing environment throughout the session.
Flexibility Beyond the First Two Weeks While the first two weeks are often considered the optimal window for newborn photography, every baby is unique. Some babies may need more time to adjust to their new environment, while others may arrive earlier than expected. As such, it’s essential to remain flexible with your scheduling and communicate openly with your photographer.
If your baby is older than two weeks when scheduling the session, don’t worry! With patience and creativity, beautiful images can still be captured at any age.
